A Doctoral Degree Programme in Translation and Interpreting Studies (DTI)
With the rapid development of economic globalization and China embracing the opening-up policy for decades, cross-cultural communication between China and the rest of the world has become very extensive and far-reaching, creating enormous demand for translation service. Furthermore, professional education in translation and interpreting studies has grown exponentially in the last decade, with more than 200 universities all over the country setting up Bachelor’s degree grogrammes in translation and interpreting studies (BTI) and Master’s degree programmes in translation and interpreting studies (MTI). Input in research and training of the faculty members are needed both for the development of the language service industry and for the healthy growth of the discipline. Therefore, our graduate school, which is leading institution in translation and Interpreting studies, has proposed to launch its new Doctoral Degree Programme in Translation and Interpreting Studies in the 2015-2016 academic year. The primary aim of the Programme is to enhancing the abilities of the teachers in teaching and research, serving the needs of the growing language service industry and the sustained endorsement of the opening-up policy. The programme will include courses such as: translation theories and research methods, research on T&I teaching practices, interdisciplinary research on T&I performance and cases studies on T&I services. The duration of study for DTI programme is 3-4 years and a master’s degree in translation studies or related areas is required of all applicants to enter the programme.
